Advisory
Faculty advisors meet regularly with students in the Middle and Upper Schools. In the Middle School, students see their advisors every morning and once a week meet formally as a group. Advisors use this time for group discussion or to address individual concerns. Time is built into the Upper School schedule for advisors to meet with advisees once a week. Advisors are often sought for guidance, decision- making, and problem-solving. The School also requires that each advisory group engage in a community service project at least one time during the year, again encouraging the values of responsible citizenship. The faculty advisors also serve as an important contact person for parents.

Career Counseling
Career guidance is administered during the seven-day Alternate Program. Many students are involved in off-campus internship experiences; all are required to complete one. These internships are supervised by professionals on site and Steward faculty members. Ninth grade students involved in the on-campus Alternate Program complete The Differential Aptitude Test (DAT) in order to explore career options as they pertain to individualized aptitude and interests. The on-campus Alternate Program also includes a Career Fair, in which various businesses are brought to campus so that students may ask questions and gather information.

International Programs

The importance of international awareness is manifested by:

  • Each year the International Students Program brings a number of young students from foreign countries into the Middle School and Upper School under the auspices of the English as a Second Language Program. Such international students contribute immeasurably to the life of the students in Lower, Middle and Upper School
  • In the Lower School, students from various countries support the curriculum by sharing their cultures with students.
