Frequently Asked Questions

Why should our child enroll at The Steward School?
The Steward School focuses on the individual needs of a child. Every child is different and learns by different means. Steward does not force a child to fit into programs and standards- it works with each child. Our small class sizes ensure that a child will be known by name and not by seating charts.

How can we afford to send our son/daughter to The Steward School?
No student should be discouraged from applying to Steward due to financial reasons. Financial aid is available on a limited and confidential basis. All aid is awarded on the basis of need and requires a Parents' Financial Statement from the School and Student Service for Financial Aid and a copy of IRS Form 1040. Kindly contact our admissions office for more information.

How is The Steward School accredited?
Steward is accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS).
Steward is also a member of these professional organizations: National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), Virginia Council for Private Education (VCPE), National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), National Middle School Association (NMSA), Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), Virginia Middle School Association (VMSA), Potomac and Chesapeake Association for College Admission Counseling (PCACAC) and National Association of College Admissions Counselors (NACAC).

Can our son/daughter receive academic support beyond the classroom if needed?
The Center for the Advancement of Learning at Steward includes an in-house tutoring program to provide support in organization, study skills and content area concepts and curriculum.

What if my child has special strengths or interests that he may want to explore further?
Steward’s Enrichment Coordinator meets with teachers, and parents and students to assist in finding or providing resources that can enrich or extend the curriculum at Steward. In addition, we have the option for older students to set up an Independent Study where they can earn credits for work in areas that may not be available through our regular curriculum.

What colleges have Steward graduates attended?
