Parents have many opportunities to contribute to their children’s
education at The Steward School.
Student Learning
Parents are regularly updated on their child’s progress in the classroom.
Teachers assign homework that requires a child to share with his or her
parents what is being taught in class. Parental input is required in decisions
such as course selection and college planning. The Parent Resource Center
provides books and workshops on topics including parenting issues, homework
and study habits, and learning styles and differences.
Volunteering
Parents can participate in the Parents’ Association, which benefits
the school by raising money and sponsoring activities through the school
year including Spartan Spirit Day in the fall and the Auction in
the spring. “Welcome Back” and “Farewell” luncheons
for the staff, monthly snacks in the teacher lounges, and a parent-run
book fair are some of the other activities sponsored by the Association.
Parents can also serve as room sponsors who help
to arrange class gatherings, field trips, newsletters,
and reading to students.
School Decision Making
Parents can also help guide the school in its focus and administration
by serving on the Board of Trustees.
