Middle School
Theatre is a one-quarter Fine Arts requirement. This course introduces students to the world of live theatre productions. Students study and practice the techniques of the artists who work in theatre, including actors, directors, designers, and playwrights. Students will learn the parts of the theatre, participate in acting exercises, and explore some areas of design.

Theatre 7 and 8 are full-year electives that allow students to explore acting, technical theatre, and playwrighting. Students will explore the various aspects of theatre production from script to performance.

Upper School

Acting
Upper School Acting is an exploration of different methods and styles of performing. Focus is placed on exploring various schools of thought as far as performance is concerned, and since no two actors are alike, each student will begin to develop a personal acting style. Attention will also be given to meeting the needs and requirements of different types of scripts and incorporating a personal acting style into those scripts.

Technical Theatre I and II
This course is an investigation into the wide variety of arts and sciences that make up the technical (non-acting) side of live theatre. Theatre organization, theatre safety, theatre architecture, budgeting, scenery construction, lighting, sound engineering, scene painting, stage-managing, and props management are just some of the fields that "technical theatre" encompasses.

The class will study a variety of hands-on topics, like building materials, tools, construction techniques, mechanical drawings, rigging, and paints, and electricity. It will also study organizational topics, such as communicating effectively, solving problems, following rules, and working as a team.
