Learning about Child Development

On Friday, November 8, local pediatrician Charles Terry talked about child development in the Wellness Studio of the Bryan Innovation Lab.

On Friday, November 8, local pediatrician Charles Terry, a Steward School Board of Trustees member, joined the boys in Meredith McGuire’s eighth-grade health class to talk about child development in the Wellness Studio of the Bryan Innovation Lab. This was the first of several baby/toddler classes that Mrs. McGuire will share with her students.

Several Steward-related parents brought their babies and toddlers to the presentation, including art teacher Lynn Zinder’s daughter, Jessica Lynn, with her three-month old daughter, Charlotte; former Spanish teacher Ashley Raggi and her six-month old son, James; Director of Admissions Robin Oliff with her two-year-old granddaughter, Finley; and Athletic Turf and Field Manager Mark Roberts with his son Jack, who is almost three.

The purpose of the lesson was to introduce the eighth-grade boys to children ranging from three months to three years to learn first-hand about human growth and development. Dr. Terry explained to the boys that they had a unique opportunity to observe babies and toddlers who were meeting developmental milestones. The experience was definitely a hit with the older boys—one of them begged, “Can we do this again in three months, so we can see all the changes with the babies?”
