March 14, 2020

Dear families, faculty, and staff,

Campus closed; remote learning to start March 23; resumed on-campus activity no earlier than March 30

As you have heard, the President has declared a national state of emergency to deal with COVID-19 (coronavirus). As well, the Governor of Virginia has mandated the closure of all schools for two weeks. In light of this as well as other decision-making factors currently on the table, The Steward School will move to remote learning as of Monday, March 23. We will resume on-campus classes no earlier than Monday, March 30, conceivably longer. We will communicate all details as we have them, including the opportunity to pick up forgotten needed materials. Faculty will use this coming week, as planned, to plan, train, and collaborate. Parents and students will hear from division directors on Tuesday, March 17 with details regarding how learning will be conducted in their divisions, with faculty starting to reach out from Wednesday, March 18 onwards; students (and Lower School parents) should check their emails, Seesaw accounts, and Google classrooms starting Wednesday.

As a reminder, all extracurricular activities are canceled including athletic practices and games, musical rehearsals, and any other activities until we return to campus.

If you have medication in the clinic (such as controlled medication or emergency medication) that you'd like to have at home, pick-up can be scheduled on Monday, March 16 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.Please email School Nurse Rebecca Heck at Rebecca.Heck@stewardschool.org to make arrangements.

At this time, we continue to not be aware of any suspected or known cases of the coronavirus among our school community members.

Faculty and staff will not come to campus on Tuesday and Wednesday as planned. We will provide remote opportunities to obtain the necessary information. Details to faculty and staff will be provided on Monday.

Please look for continued messages from the school as we manage the details that continue to emerge.

I am proud and grateful to be working with such a dedicated and talented faculty and staff, on behalf of students, parents, alumni, and friends who care for the school and each other so deeply. This community is strong, and together we will get through this. In the meantime, particularly as we work remotely from one another, let us be intentional about kindness, patience, and love. That is the mortar to our bricks.

Kind regards,

Dan Frank signature
