Jay Charity Signs with Roanoke

On Friday, January 23, senior Jay Charity officially signed to play baseball at Roanoke College.

The Steward School’s baseball program reached another milestone on Friday, January 23, when senior player Jay Charity signed with Roanoke College. Surrounded by family, friends, and teammates, Jay happily signed his name on the dotted line to play for the Maroons. He is the fourth member of the 2014 State Championship team to commit to a college baseball program.

Jay is an outfielder and a “tremendous athlete,” according to Coach Bruce Secrest, who coached both of Jay’s parents as students at Commonwealth Christian School and has known Jay since he was born. Mr. Secrest said that baseball coaches would consider Jay a 6.5 runner in the 60-yard dash, “which means he’s basically a jet rocket! He’s a game-changer.” Mr. Secrest added, “Not only is he a great baseball player, but he is a great young man with real character. I’m so proud of him.”

With the Division 3 Roanoke Maroons, Jay will be part of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and will play against teams throughout Virginia.
