Boys Tennis Claims State Title for Third Year

Steward's varsity boys tennis team once again tops state division.
A week after becoming the TCIS regular season champions, Steward's varsity boys tennis program clinched their third straight #1 finish in the state on Saturday, May 22. This win solidifies Steward's tennis program as a force to be reckoned with for years to come!

The Spartans entered the state tournament ranked #1 in the polls. They handily defeated Seton School 5-2 in the quarterfinals and Highland School 5-1 in the semifinals while advancing to the championship game against North Cross School.

Though Steward was projected to win the big match, the championship was a high-octane battle for the coveted state trophy that had viewers on the edge of their seats. North Cross needed only one doubles point to claim victory. After trailing the Raiders 2-4 in singles, Steward took three straight doubles matches for a 5-4 win to secure another state title for Steward's tennis program.

Steward tennis is shaping up to be a dynasty program at both the conference and state levels. This young team has blossomed under the direction of coach Kurt Hammerschmidt, and we look forward to seeing what accomplish next season!
