Ray Tate Student-Athlete Scholarship Winners Announced

Congratulations to our exemplary student-athletes.
Kudos to the winners of the 2021-22 Ray Tate Student-Athlete Scholarship, Erin Langenburg ’22 and Wit Moore ’22. The scholarship is named in memory of Ray Tate, who loved sports and the role they play in developing young adults.

At a ceremony during Upper School Assembly on October 25, Erin and Wit were lauded for their excellent character, strong work ethic, and extracurricular involvement. As the audience cheered them on (including their proud parents, whose attendance was kept secret until the last minute), Erin and Wit were presented $1,000 scholarships by Chuck Wingfield, president of the Spartan Club.

Erin is a standout on Steward’s swim team (and serves as the team captain). She shares her time and energy with the Virginia swimming community by representing her club team as a NOVA Aquatics Center delegate. At Steward, she serves on the Honor Council, National Honor Society, and Student Life Committee.

“I feel so honored and excited to represent the legacy of Ray Tate and the admirable qualities of a Steward student-athlete,” said Erin. “I am inspired every day by the talented people at Steward. Above all, I admire the attributes of compassion, discipline, and honor that Steward fosters.”

Wit, who plays tennis and soccer for Steward, serves on the National Honor Society, Debate Club, Chess Club, and Diversity Club. He also volunteers with RVAccess, which offers students with special needs the opportunity to play soccer.

“I am incredibly happy to receive this award and appreciate everyone who has supported me,” said Wit. “I have been able to succeed in both academics and sports only because of the support and understanding I have received from both my teachers and coaches.”

Way to go, Spartans!
