Standout Spartan: Nicholas Booker '22

An athlete with a passion for acting
When Nicholas Booker got the audition call for “Swagger,” an Apple TV series, he jumped at the chance. The show, based on the life of Brooklyn Nets basketball star Kevin Durant, was a great fit for Nicholas, a dedicated member of Steward’s varsity basketball team.

“It was nerve-wracking to audition,” recalls Nicholas, who was thrilled when he learned that he got the part. He’s since recorded several episodes of the show, a series whose storyline he describes as “straddling the line between ambition and dreams.” Nicholas’ most recent acting gig was in “The Crossover,” a 2021 Disney movie in which he again portrayed a basketball player.

When he isn’t on the court or in front of a camera, Nicholas works on his strategy skills as a member of Steward’s Chess Club, a game that he says “allows me to be creative and innovative.”

He is especially proud that his Spartan spirit shows when he meets people off campus.

“They can tell by the way I approach them and treat them that I hold the values of what it means to be a Steward Spartan,” he says.
