A hearty Spartan shoutout to Henry Bearden ’23, who was named a Student Athlete of the Year at the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame Foundation's 18th-annual Student Athlete Achievement Awards. The ceremony, held on February 5 at Old Dominion University, celebrated high school student-athletes from across Virginia who excel academically and in their communities. Henry was one of 16 finalists chosen by an awards selection committee, which received a total of 120 nominations. Among the 16 finalists, the top five were selected as the Hall of Fame's Student Athletes of the Year. This year's winners are the recipients of a $1,500 scholarship award to be used toward furthering their education.

Henry, who has a 5.0 GPA and plans to study medical and engineering sciences in college, played varsity soccer team at Steward for four years, serving as captain and earning VISAA All-State DII honors, TCIS All-Conference honors, and the Leadership Award. He also plays travel soccer for the Richmond Kickers Elite.

Henry has made the Headmaster's List each year, is a National Merit Scholar, and is vice-president of the Class of 2023. He is also involved in a variety of community service projects. He has provided soccer practice for children with disabilities; prepared and served meals for people in need at the Grace and Holy Trinity Church; and is very involved in Special Olympics.
