Hockey players take home medals
Congratulations to Charlie Bernier ’28 and Nate Herron ’28, who skated in the Cherry Blossom Hockey Showdown on behalf of the Richmond Generals Selects in Laurel, Maryland May 19-21. Charlie skated with the other 2010 birth-year players in the 14U B division, and Nate skated with the other 2009 birth-year players in the 14U A division. Both teams brought home silver medals in their respective divisions. Both athletes skated hard, played fair, and represented the Spartans well!

Charlie, who has been playing hockey for three years, said, “I love playing, and I feel like we deserved silver. We tried our best for gold … I was upset when we lost the final, but looking back, we did well and I am proud of how hard our team worked.” Charlies said the best part of being a Spartan is “the supportive community and teachers.”

Nate, who has been playing hockey for nine years, loves the sport for its friendship and teamwork opportunities. “It’s very competitive and takes a lot of hard work to get good at, and I really like those aspects as well,” he said. Reflecting on his team’s silver-medal win, he said, “My team played very well and worked hard to get to that spot after a terrible first game. It was an amazing feeling seeing that our efforts paid off in the end.” Nate said he loves being able to represent Steward wherever he goes “Everyone at the School is kind, caring, and thoughtful,” he said.
