Steward Receives 2018 Clean Business Award

The school was honored by the Keep Henrico Beautiful Committee for its commitment to beautification and sustainability.
Established in 2011, the Keep Henrico Beautiful Awards honor exemplary homes and businesses from each magisterial district in Henrico for both their aesthetic beauty and their commitment to environmental sustainability. This year, The Steward School won the award in their business category for the Tuckahoe District – the 2018 Clean Business Award! Steward’s Director of Plant Operations, Chad Montgomery, was honored at a ceremony on June 26.

“We are honored to receive this award,” Mr. Montgomery said. “It is a testament to the hard work of the men and women of our department, to the commitment the school’s leadership has to providing a beautiful, safe, and healthy environment for our families, and to the buy-in of our faculty and staff, who have implemented programs aimed at making our community a cleaner, more beautiful place. Here at Steward, our mission is to prepare our students for college and for life. I believe that an important part of that preparation is instilling in them an appreciation for the spaces they occupy and a respect for the effort it takes to maintain them. Steward is a community of care, but we also care for the community around us. I think this award is proof that we are succeeding in our mission.”

The Keep Henrico Beautiful Committee was founded in 1980 “with the purpose of improving environmental quality of Henrico County through the development of a comprehensive educational program to reduce litter and littering.” The Keep Henrico Beautiful Award winners are determined by the committee’s evaluation of their grounds. They must meet and exceed the following standards:
  • Properties must be attractively landscaped
  • Properties must be well-maintained and litter-free
  • Property owners must participate in an ongoing recycling program such as composting, curbside pickup, or drop-off service
  • Businesses must have outdoor trashcans available to reduce the incidence of littering
The Steward School was pronounced to possess sustained maintenance, beautification, and to be litter-free. As such, the Keep Henrico Beautiful Committee believes that Steward “enhance[s] the quality of life in Henrico.”

A “Clean Business Award” sign will be installed on Steward’s property for a 30-day period during the month of July.
