Shawn Morrison Serves as New Director of Development

Shawn Morrison has been selected to lead our Development Office. As the director of development, he will lead the school’s fundraising efforts, serve on Steward’s executive leadership team, and work with the Board of Trustees on philanthropy.

An alumnus of Ravenscroft School in Raleigh, Mr. Morrison graduated with a B.A. in mathematics with a secondary education concentration from the University of Richmond in 1998. While his fundraising experience began immediately after college, it wasn’t until working at Duke University as the assistant director of the annual fund and reunion giving that he considered development as a career.

He returned to UR in 2007 where he rose through the Development Office, gaining experience as a major gifts officer, director of prospect research, and director of annual giving, while earning a Master of Liberal Arts degree with a concentration in philanthropy.

Mr. Morrison said one of his main objectives as the director of development is to build strong relationships between the Development Office and all members of the Steward community. He also aims to observe the current processes set in place and make improvements as necessary to help Steward achieve its goals.

“I enjoy critical thinking and the idea of refining concepts that are in place to really take them to the next level,” he said. “I can tell that Steward is growing and developing in how it impacts students and the surrounding community, and that really drew me to this institution. I’m excited to work with the wonderful people who are here in making this effort a reality.”

Given his background in education, Shawn deeply understands the independent school world and mission, and with his extensive fundraising experience, he recognizes the importance of philanthropy and its impact on a school’s advancement. We can’t wait to see what he accomplishes.”

We are pleased to welcome Shawn, his wife, Erica, and their two sons, Manning ’23 and Caleb ’26, to Steward.
