Campus Reopening Update

An update on the progress of Steward's reopening plan.

Dear Steward community,

A few weeks ago, we shared an update regarding our plans for reopening campus, and we’ll have another major update in mid-July. Today, we are providing some interim details. We know many of you have recently heard from other area schools, and we didn’t want to leave you wondering about the latest from Steward.

First and foremost, we intend for students to return to campus this fall, unless otherwise directed by government regulations. In fact, campus is already partially reopened. This was the first week of summer camp and all went smoothly. We successfully implemented new health and hygiene protocols (providing learnings for the fall) and our campers enjoyed much-needed social reconnection.

In addition to reopening camps, we have also done the following over the past few weeks:

Submitted our reopening plans for camps and athletic practices to the Virginia Council for Private Education
Redesigned spaces to safely maximize face-to-face learning
Prepared for sports practices to safely begin within the next few weeks
Prepared to hire an additional nurse for the school year
Examined dining solutions to offer lunch
Identified an on-site quarantine location
Purchased significant quantities of hand sanitizer, disinfectant cleansers, and faculty/staff masks
Purchased classroom supplies to enhance social distancing and hygiene

We will be in touch again in mid-July with more information about our plans. In the meantime, I’d like to thank the faculty, staff, board members, and volunteers who have been working diligently to ensure the best possible Steward experience for our community.
