Standout Spartan: Bella Topich '23

Putting the heart in art.
When Bella Topich found out that she won third place at the State Fair of Virginia Youth Creative Arts competition, she was both shocked and proud. Living through a pandemic has affected Bella in many ways, and creating art helps her express herself and connect with others. The winning piece is an oil pastel on canvas, with lyrics from one of her favorite songs gracing the top of the painting.

“My artwork is the product of a lot of contemplation about the effect the pandemic has had on me and on others,” she explains. “Not being able to experience the simple joys of being a child: I've seen and experienced that. I wanted to channel the emotions that we as the global youth have felt.”

Bella, who has been at Steward since freshman year, is a member of the Fashion Club, Students for Change, the Global Awareness Club, the Philanthropic Tea and Hot Beverage Society, and the Bob Ross Club.

“My interests vary, so I am excited to be in clubs that can help me grow in different areas,” she says. This year, she’s also on the Prom Committee. “I cannot wait to bring my ideas and artistic abilities to the table! The best thing about being a Spartan is that I have a place where I can grow as an artist, a student, and a person.”
