When Locke Pfannebecker ’27 jumps into the frigid water of Lake Superior on February 19, he’ll be thinking about his Uncle Alex. Locke’s beloved uncle participated in the Polar Plunge — an annual fundraiser to benefit Special Olympics Minnesota — for many years. After Alex died, Locke’s dad participated in the event, and this year, Locke will take the plunge in his uncle’s memory. Locke, who has raised nearly $650 for Special Olympics Minnesota, will travel to the event with his dad and stepmom. He’ll be jumping with his cousin and his aunt.
“The Polar Plunge will be a ‘wing-it’ thing,” said Locke when asked if he’s been training for the event. “It’ll be fun … but kind of sad for me, too, because Alex and I were very close.”
Warm wishes, Locke. Your Spartan family is so proud of you.
