Honor Code Signing

The Steward School
A Steward tradition
In early September, Steward students signed the Honor Code in the Lora M. Robins Theatre; division directors and faculty signed, too. At the beginning of each school year, students from junior kindergarten through twelfth grade participate in this School tradition. By doing so, Spartans pledge that they will abide by the principles of the Honor Code, including honesty and integrity. Participating in this rite of passage, and understanding its importance, helps equip students to prepare for the world ahead.

Although all Steward students have always signed the Honor Code, this year marks the first time that Lower Schoolers did so during a special signing assembly

“It was wonderful to see the children approach the signing with real seriousness and care,” said Lower School Director Ingrid Moore. “They know that pledging to uphold these values is what makes the Steward community so strong.” Added Health and Wellness Coordinator Kris Marchant, “The students should be very proud of themselves for participating in the first annual Lower School Honor Code assembly. As they came off the stage after signing, many students excitedly said to me, ‘I did it!’”

“At this year's Middle School Honor Code signing, Kaitlyn Freed ’27, our Student Council president, addressed her peers, noting that the Honor Code is the basis of student life at Steward, as it is a visible confirmation that all members of the community will act with integrity,” noted Middle School Director Susan Atkinson. “She also hoped that all Middle School students were as proud to sign the document as she was —  a great beginning to the start of the new school year!”

Upper School Division Director Adam Seldis said, "The Honor Code is central to everything we do at Steward, and the Honor Code signing is an important reminder to us all of the values and commitments we share. Jack Jordan ’23, the Upper School Honor Council president, shared his thoughts during the signing on the importance of living each day with honor, and valuing a life led by integrity, respect, and kindness.”

We are proud of all our students and their commitment to each other and to the wider community. Way to go, Spartans!
