Steward Alumni Association Announces Legacy Scholarship

The Steward School
Supporting tomorrow’s alumni
The Steward School’s Alumni Association recently announced a special fundraising campaign to establish an endowed Alumni Legacy Scholarship. Once the initial fundraising goal of $100,000 is met, gifts to the scholarship will be invested and the income will contribute to the funds available to recipients. In the first year, four $1,000 scholarships will be awarded; in subsequent years, the Alumni Board will have an annual goal of raising additional funds so that the scholarships can increase in scope and amount.

The purpose of the legacy scholarship is threefold: to give back to alumni by supporting their children while attending Steward; to support future alumni while they attend Steward; and to build generations of legacy children. This unique scholarship will be open to students whose parents or legal guardians are graduates of the School, and selection will be based on a balance of merit, financial circumstances, and academic promise.

Inspired and Generous
Mary Harvard Nolde ’93, former director of annual giving and alumni affairs and a dedicated current member of Steward’s Board of Trustees, was instrumental in establishing and contributing to the scholarship.

“This scholarship offers the children of alumni the opportunity for an exceptional education within a nurturing community,” said Ms. Nolde, a recent inductee into the School’s Athletics Hall of Fame. “The Steward School has always been for me ‘the little engine that could’ — it rises above challenges both great and small. During its 50-year history, the School has flourished because of its strong community and mission of preparing students for college and for life. It has grown tremendously throughout the years, yet it remains a close-knit campus that alumni return to again and again. As an alum, I want more legacy students to be able to attend the School that gave me so many opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.”

Matching Gift Challenge
“We are excited to share that alumnus Scott Moncure '83, former director of Steward admissions, has provided a matching gift challenge to help raise funds needed to endow the scholarship,” said Director of Development Jenni Booker Baker. “This special 50th-anniversary challenge was made in honor of the alumni who founded our Alumni Association: Robert Dietz '81, Denise Featherston Dietz '81, Wyman Smith '82, and Robinnette Turner Wrobel '83. We are so grateful to Scott, who will generously match all gifts, dollar for dollar, up to $5,000, that are received by April 30, 2023.”
