Hardworking volunteers step up to help

On May 6, Steward Cancer Awareness Club members Leslie Kovach (Upper School science teacher), Jen Maitland (Upper School mathematics teacher), Amelia Callis ’23 (club president), and Anza Fierro ’23 participated in the ASK 5K walk, which raises funds to help children diagnosed with cancer.

“Our team raised close to $5,000 thanks to the donations given during our Clips for Cancer event in February,” noted Ms. Maitland. “The name of our team was featured on the official ASK banner and T-shirts!” Following the ASK walk, the four delivered the Clips for Cancer donated hair to Cheryl Tankersly at Planet Hair. The hair will be used to make wigs for children experiencing hair loss due to chemotherapy or alopecia.
