Senior Summer Owens Qualifies for Lexus of Richmond Pursuit of Perfection Scholarship

Summer will be featured live on-air Wednesday, October 12

Lexus of Richmond, in collaboration with iHeartMedia, 1140 WRVA, Sports Radio 910, and FOX TV Richmond, has announced that Steward senior Summer Owens has qualified for the 22nd Annual Pursuit of Perfection Leadership Award, which recognizes “RVA’s most talented scholar-athletes.” As week three’s qualifying award winner, Summer will receive a plaque, will be interviewed live on WRVA (8:22 a.m.) and Fox Sports 910 (8:35 a.m.) on Wednesday, October 12, and will be featured in a Fox 35 News segment.

Summer is the captain of the varsity cross country team and a tri-captain of the varsity girls soccer team. In 2015, she was named an All-State runner and All-Conference by the League of Independent Schools. Summer also holds many Steward athletic awards including the coach’s award, most spirited, and most valuable player.

“The Lexus of Richmond Pursuit of Perfection Award Program looks for someone who is well-rounded,” said Upper School Dean of Student Support Livia McCoy, who nominated Summer. “Summer’s amazing achievements in academics is balanced by her concern for others and the environment. She is genuinely a kind and gentle spirit who is well-respected by both teachers and peers.”

In addition to her athletic accolades, Summer has been on the Headmaster’s List since ninth grade with an overall GPA of 4.7. Summer was selected as one of 18 students throughout the world to participate in Brown University’s Pre-College Program course, The Tropical Coast: Florida Keys Program to Study Marine Biology and Ecosystems. Summer also completed an internship at The Dolphin Research Center in Grassy Key, Fla. as part of minimester her sophomore year.

When asked what drives her, she said, “Ever since I was a little girl I have wanted to be a dolphin trainer and I still want to be. That is why I work so hard every day; because I know working hard now will help me reach my lifetime dream of working with dolphins every day at The Dolphin Research Center.”

Summer is now eligible to receive the Lexus of Richmond Pursuit of Perfection Leadership Award and a $10,000 scholarship. In May, all 30 weekly qualifiers will be recognized at an awards banquet where the winner will be announced. Good luck, Summer!
