Announcing the Ray Tate Student-Athlete Scholarship Winners

Zachary Beigel and Emily Parris named Ray Tate Student-Athlete Scholarship winners.

The Spartan Club proudly presented the Ray Tate Student-Athlete Scholarship to two senior athletes during Upper School assembly on October 6. Zachary Beigel and Emily Parris received this award for their outstanding contributions to Steward athletics and school life during their time here.

Zachary has played basketball and baseball at Steward and for Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) throughout his high school years. He is a member of the Honor Council, National Honor Society, Student Philanthropy Initiative, Special Olympics Club, and Ping Pong Club. Zachary has volunteered for five years as a counselor at Steward’s summer sports camps and was the school’s representative at the 2013 Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership seminar.

Emily has been a varsity field hockey and lacrosse player since the eighth grade at Steward, including winter indoor lacrosse. Outside of school, she has played lacrosse for a competitive travel team named STORM Elite and is now coaching a STORM youth team. In addition to athletics, Emily is a member of the National Honor Society, Student-Athlete Committee, Student Section Club, and serves as an admissions ambassador.

The Ray Tate Student-Athlete Scholarship was established in 2012 to honor Ray Tate, the founder of the Spartan Club, and has been presented on the day of the Ray Tate Spartan Golf Classic since last year. Key factors that are considered when choosing the recipients are excellent character; a strong work ethic; high values; commitment; a positive, team-oriented attitude; meaningful extracurricular involvement; responsible citizenship; and consistent respect for all people.

Congratulations to Zachary and Emily!
