Helpful Tips

The online application does not have to be completed all at once.

After you’ve created your account, bookmark the login screen. As you fill out the application, you’ll see that you can periodically save your work. If you need to pause and return at a later time, simply log in again and pick up where you left off.

The application fee can be paid online as well. At the end of the application, you will be directed to a secure, encrypted page where you can make a credit card payment.

Admissions FAQs

List of 9 frequently asked questions.

  • What are you looking for in an applicant?

We seek students who are capable, curious, and eager to learn, and who will participate fully in the life of the school. Our admissions process uses a holistic approach to evaluating applicants, with no fixed criteria.
  • Is there admission testing?

Admission testing is required at all levels. For specific information about your grade-level requirements, read more here.
  • Does applying for variable tuition affect an applicant’s chance for admission?

No. All admissions decisions are made without regard to financial status.
  • Do I need to submit a completed application before I visit?

Ordinarily, we are happy to give campus tours to anyone who inquires about admission to Steward and a completed application would not be required. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are not hosting student visitors at this time.

Typically, applicants who have submitted their application would spend a school day shadowing a current student in his/her grade level, but we are not able to host visitors this year. We are working to find as many other ways as possible to connect our applicants with the school during the admissions process.
  • What does it cost to attend Steward?

Steward is proud to be among the top tier of independent schools in the Richmond area and to offer a top-notch college-preparatory education. Tuition varies by division:
    • JK: $16,950 (full-day)
    • Lower School (K-5): $23,990
    • Middle School (6-8): $25,700
    • Upper School (9-12): $27,120
Steward offers a variable tuition option to eligible families, as well as merit scholarships to new Upper School students.

More information is available on the Affordability webpage.
  • Can I visit Steward?

Unfortunately, we are not able to host student visitors this year because of COVID-19 restrictions. There are many other ways to learn more about Steward though. We encourage you to visit our Experience Steward page or reach out to our admissions team.
  • What is the application deadline?

To be considered in the first round of admission decisions, applications should be submitted by January 31, 2021. Applications submitted after this date are considered on a rolling basis as space permits.
  • Can a student apply mid-year?

Mid-year applicants are carefully considered on a case-by-case basis, provided there is room in that particular grade. Relocation from out of area is the primary reason for a mid-year transfer.
