  • What is the date, time and location of the 2023 Gala?

Saturday, March 18, 2023, from 6-10 p.m. at the Dewey Gottwald Center. Please use the address specific to the Dewey Gottwald Center: 2301 W Leigh St., Richmond, Va. 23220. Directions and Parking
  • What should I wear?

The suggested dress is black-tie optional or cocktail.
  • What is the cost of the Gala?

General seating at the Gala is $150 per person.
  • Is this a seated dinner?

Yes! It is a special celebration this year as we commemorate the 50th anniversary of The Steward School. While there is no reserved seating for individual tickets (what a great opportunity to meet new friends!), you may reserve a table for 8 guests as a Family and Alumni Host Committee Sponsor (see below for details). To add an element of memorable elegance to the evening, we intend to toast the occasion in our finest.
  • How can I reserve a table?

You can reserve a table by becoming a Host Committee Sponsor. Individuals and families can be a Host Committee sponsor. The cost is $2,000 for a table of 8 (the Host Committee Sponsor and seven guests).
  • What is the Gala Host Committee?

The Gala Host Committee is an opportunity for individuals and families to make the event possible by sponsoring The Steward School’s largest fundraiser of the year.  The Host Committee sponsorship includes a reserved table for 8 at the event and a $300 Raise the Shield donation is automatically included in the sponsorship.
  • What is the Raise the Shield portion of the evening?

Raise the Shield is Steward’s version of Raise the Paddle, which is often used at auctions. During this part of the evening, we will ask for donations that will go directly to the School; one hundred percent of these donations are tax-deductible. Host Committee Sponsors participate in Raise the Shield by reserving a table (a $300 gift will automatically be designated from your sponsorship).
  • I can’t make it to the Gala. Are there other ways I can be involved?

Yes! We have various sponsorship opportunities. The Program Sponsorship level, for example, allows families, individuals, and corporations to purchase a full- or half-page ad in the commemorative Gala program and include a photo and/or message. Families, corporations, friends, and local businesses are invited to support the Gala through sponsorships of any level
  • I would love to volunteer to help with the Gala. How can I help?

Great! We need volunteers. If you have time now, the auction committee is looking for help getting items for the auction. If you own a business (or know someone who does), we would love to have items and/or services to auction off at the event! In the past we have received items and experiences of all sizes, including a week at a vacation home, tickets to sporting events and concerts, gift certificates to local businesses, great bottles of wine, and more! Donations are tax-deductible. Need more details? Contact the Development Office at

We also need help on the day of the event (March 18, 2023) to transform the Dewey Gottwald Center into a magical 50th Gala Celebration space! A sign-up sheet will be available in February on the Gala webpage. Be on the lookout, or email for more information.
