On September 21, The Steward School will celebrate Whirled Peace Day — an annual event loved by all. Students in Middle School and Upper School art classes, as well as all Lower School students, will each create a pinwheel (a symbol of peace). During Community Time on September 21, students will gather outside to “plant” their pinwheels and join in songs that celebrate peace. Each year for Whirled Peace Day, the Steward community partners with an organization. In the past, Steward has collaborated with Richmond Children’s Hospital, Henrico Police and Fire, the James River Foundation, and The Anna Julia Cooper School.
This year on Whirled Peace Day, we’ll be collecting items for “birthday boxes” that our students will put together and donate to two local organizations: Peter Paul, a Richmond community-based agency that serves East End children, families, and neighbors; and Church Hill Activities and Tutoring (CHAT), which serves Richmond's East End through education, vocational training, after-school enrichment, and community partnerships. We’d love your help!
We’re collecting the following items on Whirled Peace Day:
Junior Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and Grade 12: balloons and birthday candles
Grades 1, 6, and 11: cake mixes
Grades 2 and 7: icing
Grades 3 and 8: round aluminum cake pans
Grades 4 and 9: canned Sprite soda
Grades 5 and 10: packaged party favors
