Steward fourth-grader Kenley Teller made quite a splash in Lewisville, Texas last week while competing in the U.S. Paralympics National Championships for swimming. Kenley is the youngest person ever to compete in the National Championships, and she made the most of that opportunity. By the end of the first day of competition, Kenley had scored a gold medal in the S8 50 meter backstroke event, and she later set three additional personal records including shaving 12 seconds off her previous best in the 100 meter freestyle and 11 seconds off her 100 meter breaststroke. Kenley left Lewisville with the 2019 Amazing Grace Award, which recognizes a developing athlete with traits of courage, friendliness, determination, and cheer. Kenley was chosen for the award out of a field of 100+ swimmers. We are proud of you, Kenley!
