Profile highlights relationship between head coach Kara Bacile and graduating players.
When Athletics Assistant Kara Bacile came to Steward in 2019 as an assistant basketball coach, she was intent on securing a championship for the JV girls basketball team. Since then, she's graduated to head coach while leading the varsity girls to not one but two championships — one in the conference, and another in the state.
With the pandemic-shortened athletics season, the varsity girls basketball team has had few chances to play competitively. But even if matches against other teams are hard to come by, their goal to gain closure is something they work toward every day.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch spent some time with Coach Bacile and several of the team's graduating seniors to learn more about their motivations during this unusual season. It highlights the relationship between Coach Bacile and those students who played under her as JV, and later varsity, athletes.
