With lots of thanks to Upper School Photography Teacher John Alley, Charlie Ventura '23 and Chase Wingfield '23 have been photographing recent University of Richmond men's basketball games. Mr. Alley arranged for the UR opportunity.
“Mr. Alley has been my photography teacher since ninth grade and he taught me everything I know about cameras,” said Chase, whose interest in being behind the camera has developed over the past several years. The most exciting part of photographing UR games is “seeing all the photos displayed on my website and seeing the Richmond players repost my work on their social media.”
Charlie is especially enthusiastic about the timeliness of photographing athletes in action.
“Honestly, you feel like you are playing an important role in capturing the emotion of an important moment,” he said. Charlie is thankful to the Steward community for all that it offers. “I love being a Spartan because in every opportunity I explore, I feel like I have an army of people supporting me.”
"When you have a place like Steward where you can look into the stands and see your teachers, classmates, friends, and family, that's the beauty of school sports. That's when you understand that you're playing for something bigger than yourself." - Coach Kara Bacile
