Sierra Vagi ’26 has been playing tennis since she was four years old — and competitively since she was eight. A member of the United States Tennis Association (USTA), Sierra often travels to compete in both singles and doubles USTA tournaments. She recently competed in Pennsylvania, where she won second place in singles.
“I enjoy seeing progress in my practices and in tournaments,” said Sierra, who is a member of Steward’s Cancer Awareness Club and Stewardship Club.
During the weekend of November 24-26, 2022, she played in a tournament in Louisville, Kentucky, where she netted an impressive singles victory. “I ended up placing first out of 64 girls,” she said. “I won five matches leading up to the final, and then won the final 6-0, 6-3.”
In January 2023, Sierra won second place at a national L3 girls 16s tennis tournament held at Virginia Beach. She won four matches to get to the finals. Sierra is currently ranked #40 in the nation for freshmen on the tennis recruiting website.
"When you have a place like Steward where you can look into the stands and see your teachers, classmates, friends, and family, that's the beauty of school sports. That's when you understand that you're playing for something bigger than yourself." - Coach Kara Bacile
