Steward junior accepted into summer neuroscience internship at The Ohio State University.
Steward's Upper School science department is pleased to share that Alaina Jefferson '22 was recently accepted into a prestigious neuroscience internship this summer!
The Explorations in Neuroscience Research Internship Program is a paid seven-week intensive funded by the National Institutes of Health. Alaina will travel to The Ohio State University (OSU) this summer to work directly with a trained mentor as well as graduate students and lab technicians from OSU's College of Medicine. The internship gives her access to cutting-edge laboratory technology in a collaborative environment, as well as opportunities to gain experience in reading scientific literature and presenting research findings. With mentors coming from multiple departments at OSU, Alaina can discuss her lab research and learn practical advice from real-word researchers invested in her growth as a student and a scientist.
The opportunity gives high school students like Alaina hands-on experience in biomedical research while focusing on several specialties in neuroscience like neurological injury and neurodegeneration. It's also a great way for young scientists to explore neuroscience as an undergraduate major and career choice while carrying out research on brain and spinal cord health.
The connections she will make within her cohort of rising juniors and seniors interested in brain disease research are invaluable, and we look forward to hearing about her internship following summer break!
