On April 27, The Steward School hosted its annual Rise Against Hunger meal-packing event on campus. Rise Against Hunger meals are served around the globe in medical clinics, vocational training programs, elder care facilities, and schools. The event brought students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and friends together for one of the Steward community’s favorite service projects.
In the multipurpose gym, more than 100 volunteers helped with setup, meal packing, and cleanup. Our hardworking Spartans packed 20,000 meals! The meal packets will be sent to developing nations throughout the world.
Helping Hands
Emerson Pollicino ’26 was happily busy all day at Rise Against Hunger, checking in volunteers, setting up tables, and packing meals.
“The best part of the day was working with and meeting new people,” said Emerson. “After the event, I felt glad knowing that Spartans helped to pack 20,000 meals that will be shipped off and used to help end hunger. It is an amazing feeling to know that something you did can have such a huge impact on so many people. I'm proud to be a Spartan because I get to be part of such an uplifting community that is loving and welcoming.”
Gratitude
Through service, Spartans of all ages gain a deeper understanding of the world around them and the importance of compassion and empathy. Giving one’s time and energy to causes both near and far embodies Steward’s core values of care and respect.
“We are so grateful to the Steward community for sharing their time and energy on a Sunday to help those in need,” said Coordinator of Service Learning and Engagement Alexa Bolt. “It was touching to see people of all ages getting to know one another, working together, and teaming up to help those in need. It’s very Steward!”
