Congratulations to Kenzie Marchant ’27, who was selected as a Climate Leader Fellow through a program provided by Stanford University Deliberative Democracy Lab and the Rustic Pathways Foundation. The 12-week virtual study trains high schoolers to design and implement local climate action in their communities.
Kenzie applied to the program “because I want to find a real way to make an impact in my community, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so.” Now a few weeks into her new venture, Kenzie is gearing up to collaborate with peers from around the globe. They’ll exchange ideas and work with mentors to identify and solve local climate challenges through a collaborative capstone project.
“I love meeting people from places that are not as familiar to me, and I find that it helps me develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of different cultures. It also strengthens my love for travel,” said Kenzie. Travel is near to Kenzie’s adventurous heart. Last summer, she went on a Rustic Pathways service-learning travel trip to Kefalonia, Greece, where she studied turtle conservation. Kenzie said the trip was a perfect fit for her. She met people from all over the world, mapped parts of the ocean floor while snorkeling, and tracked turtle habits.
“My favorite part of the trip was when our whole group was on a boat for the entire day, and we ventured to different islands near Kefalonia. That was the day that I saw a turtle for the first time, and it was incredible!” She added, “This trip helped me foster a deeper connection with nature and climate change, and I hope I can go on a trip like this again in the future.”
On campus, Kenzie is a member of the lacrosse team, serves as an Admissions Ambassador, is on the Honor Roll, and is a member of the Women’s Empowerment Club.
