Athletic Hall of Fame

Recognizing Steward’s Greatest Former Athletes, Coaches, and Athletic Program Contributors

In 2015, The Steward School established an Athletic Hall of Fame to recognize members of the Steward community who have proven exceptionally influential in athletics. They also serve as role models for current and future Steward student-athletes. The new Hall of Fame honorees are celebrated every other January with a ceremony and reception in the Lora M. Robins Theatre and at the Steward Winter Invitational.

We hope you will join us as we honor the 2018 inductees during the Hall of Fame Ceremony on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. in the Lora M. Robins Theatre. The following outstanding Steward athletes, coaches, and athletic program contributors will be honored as Steward's third Athletic Hall of Fame class.

J. Neil Turnage, DDS

J. Neil Turnage is a beloved figure in the Spartan community who served many roles during his time at Steward. Not only was he a soccer coach, he also served as the director of athletics, head of plant and maintenance, and Upper School dean of students. Afterwards, he attended dental school at VCU/MCV School of Dentistry and graduated in 1997. Dr. Turnage now works as both a dentist at Virginia Family Dentistry Short Pump and an adjunct faculty member at VCU/MCV.

Jennifer (Gray) Meador

Jennifer (Gray) Meador ’02 split her time between field hockey, basketball, and lacrosse while at Steward. She was accepted into the Futures Program all-tournament team in addition to receiving All-LIS, All-State, and MVP honors for field hockey. By the time she graduated, she had received 15 varsity letters and was honored with the Coach’s Award, Richmond Times-Dispatch Athlete of the Year Award, and the James V. Buis Athletic Scholarship Award, among others. Mrs. Meador went on to play four seasons of club field hockey at JMU and now works as an occupational therapist at VCU.

Shawn Lewis

Shawn Lewis ’97 was an award-winning student-athlete who played soccer, basketball, lacrosse, and golf during his time at Steward. He was a member of the championship-winning indoor soccer team under fellow Hall of Fame member Ian Coddington his junior and senior years, and he received All-Conference honors for both soccer and basketball, the Outstanding Point Guard award for basketball, the Coach’s Award and MVP award for soccer, and the Most Improved award for golf. Mr. Lewis currently resides in Arlington, Texas and works at GE Energy Management.
