Congratulations to Asher Solodar ’32, who was named a finalist in the Membean GO contest. Membean, a personalized vocabulary learning platform, challenged students across the United States in grades 6-8 to stage a photo by creatively displaying a word and depicting how that word inspires them. 

Asher chose the word “vogue.” In his photo, Asher is sitting cross-legged on the floor while he “vogues” (a dance move), surrounded by an issue of “Vogue” magazine and items that are currently “in vogue” (Labubu and Needoh toys).

“The word ‘vogue’ stood out to me for its universal relatability throughout generations,” shared Asher. “For example, the Labubus and Needohs in the photo stand out to younger age groups while the magazine and pose are distinctive among older generations.” Students with Membean accounts (including Spartans) could vote online for their favorite photo, and the winners will be announced on April 20. The top three winners will be awarded gift cards. 

Asher said, “I am impressed with how well Membean really solidifies words inside the user’s head. It doesn’t just throw a word and a definition at you and move on. It periodically revisits words that were previously taught. I have tried a variety of other vocabulary platforms, with none reaching the capabilities of Membean.”

Asher, who started at Steward in kindergarten, said the past years “seamlessly flew by.” He is a proud member of the Middle School chess club and a Spartan through and through. “The best thing about being a Spartan is the phenomenal community, classmates, and teachers,” he said. “I am grateful to be surrounded by those who genuinely care for and support me.”
