    Enhancing the learning experience
At The Steward School, we believe that every child is unique and a valuable member of our close-knit community. With this belief comes a responsibility to equip students with the tools they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom. The Center for the Advancement of Learning (CAL) supports students from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12 by helping them develop the skills they need to succeed in class, in college, and in life. CAL supports your child’s academic, social, and emotional growth. In collaboration with our School Counselor and other on-campus professionals, we provide individualized support tailored to your child’s needs. When additional services are needed, we can help connect your family with trusted community partners, including Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, and other specialists.

Collaborative Communication for Student Success
Consistent communication between tutors and parents is essential to helping students thrive. Tutors play a key role in building a supportive team around your child, working with families and teachers to ensure everyone is working toward the same goals. By maintaining an open line of communication, tutors can better understand your child’s learning style, strengths, challenges, and any additional factors that may affect their progress. This collaboration helps CAL align strategies, set shared expectations, and provide the best support for your child’s success.

Tailored Tutoring Support for Every Learner
Students are thoughtfully paired with tutors based on their academic strengths and learning styles. Our experienced tutors collaborate closely with teachers who use evidence-based strategies to help students thrive.

In the Lower School, tutoring sessions are designed to build strong foundations in reading, writing, and math. Students are able to receive general academic support as well as specialized literacy instruction based on the Orton-Gillingham approach. CAL recognizes the important connection between literacy development and speech, language, and motor skills and coordinates annual screenings and, when needed, provides access to speech-language and occupational therapy services.

As students grow, their academic needs evolve as well. CAL tutors work with Middle and Upper School students to reinforce subject-specific content in English, math, science, and Spanish. Tutors also help students strengthen essential academic skills such as time management, organization, study habits, and test-taking strategies. Looking beyond academics, tutors also help to strengthen students’ self confidence and self-advocacy skills, necessary for long-term success.

  • Scheduling and Billing

    Scheduling and Billing
Tutoring sessions are scheduled based on your child’s individual needs, with flexible options to ensure the adequate level of support. Each hour-long session is billed at $63 per hour plus an administrative fee to cover materials and program costs.

Families who need financial assistance may apply for the Robins Tutoring Scholarship Fund, which can help offset the cost for qualifying applicants.

Neurodiversity

Neurodiversity is the natural variation in how human brains think, learn, and process information. This includes students who are neurotypical as well as those with diagnosed learning differences. All students benefit from an educational experience that values multiple ways of thinking and learning.

At The Steward School, it’s important to note that while we are a school with students with identified learning differences, we are not a school for students with identified learning differences. Meaning, we offer some accommodations, such as extended time or testing in a small group, but we do not provide individualized education plans nor do we customize our curriculum to target specific skill or processing challenges.

Our goal is to empower our students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. By embracing neurodiversity, The Steward School fosters a vibrant learning community where all our students are seen, supported, and celebrated.
