Music teacher joins Grammy-winning daughter onstage
Lower School Music Teacher Sandy Dacus loves to sing! She was delighted when, on September 19, she joined her daughter, three-time Grammy Award winner Lucy Dacus, onstage at the Altria Theater, where Lucy was performing her “Forever Is a Feeling” national tour.
“Lucy invited me onstage to sing ‘My Mother and I,’ a song she wrote in 2019 about her birth mother and me,” said Ms. Dacus. “I was a bit nervous, but also excited and honored to sing with her. I was overwhelmed that many of my former students were in the audience, and Lucy asked them to cheer if they had been taught by me in the past. Of course, they are all grown up now!”
Lucy and Ms. Dacus spent time together on campus earlier that day, chatting with Women’s Empowerment Club members and a group of Upper Schoolers in conjunction with the club’s Lunches with Ladies series.
“I was grateful to get to spend time with her at school, at her hotel, and again at the theater!” said Ms. Dacus.
