Standout Spartan: Jameson Wartella '34

The Steward School
Spartan excels in ninja-warrior-style competition
Jameson Wartella ’34 is a ninja warrior! He recently competed in Run Wild Races, a ninja warrior-style competition that was held in April at the Metro Richmond Zoo. The two-mile Wild Ninja event, which included a whopping 42 obstacles, tested the 85 participants’ balance, strength, and stamina.

“I was inspired to participate by my grandma, who asked me to watch ‘American Ninja Warrior’ with her. I really liked it,” said Jameson, a double amputee whose motto is “No feet, no excuses.”

Finding a ninja gym to train in was the hardest part of Jameson’s months-long race prep, so he and his mom traveled to gyms in nearby cities. He is duly proud of his intensive training and the results of his hard work.

“I placed second in my age group!” said Jameson, who also placed 45th overall among participants with an age range of 9 to 60. Jameson also helped design the shirt he competed in. “It felt really good to achieve my goal. After the race, I celebrated by going to the zoo with a friend.”

Congratulations, Jameson! We are so proud of you!
