Steward and bbgb Host Author Jan Brett

The Steward School
Author-illustrator speaks to sold-out audience
On December 3, Richmond bookstore bbgb presented a talk and book signing by author-illustrator Jan Brett, which was held at The Steward School. This public event, which took place in the Lora M. Robins Theatre, was attended by an enthusiastic crowd of hundreds of Ms. Brett’s loyal readers. In preparation for the visit, Lower School Spartans participated in themed lessons based on her books.

“The Christmas Sweater”
With more than 44 million books in print, Ms. Brett is one of the nation’s foremost illustrators of children’s books. Her newest book, “The Christmas Sweater,” follows an adventurous boy and an adorable pug in a festive sweater. Drawing inspiration from Greek mythology, this story of the bond between a boy and a dog radiates charm. To the delight of Ms. Brett’s readers, her tour bus, wrapped in artwork from “The Christmas Sweater,” was parked in the Lower School parking lot before the event.

Presentation and Book Signing
Ms. Brett, who is known for her whimsical illustrations, gave a 30-minute drawing demonstration, which was followed by a book signing. She took time to chat with each person in the (very long!) line of people waiting to have a book signed. Hedgie, Ms. Brett’s favorite friend from her book “The Mitten” and “The Hat,” was also at the event, and students delighted in having their photo taken with the cuddly character.
