2016 Season Recap

This season of JV volleyball was built around strengthening individual and team skills. Coached by Jenn and Ian McCathern, the JV girls finished the season 8-10 overall. The team overcame many obstacles during the season, including losing key players to the varsity team, but they truly stepped up and adapted. Sophomore captain Jenna Montgomery and freshman captain Dabney Leverty kept pushing and encouraging the team from match to match. Jenna delivered 16 blocks and Dabney had 38 kills. Freshman Carolyn Aldredge took charge of the court as an all-around player offensively and defensively. Freshman Anna Kilduff stepped up in a new position as a setter—she finished the season with 46 assists. The team fought hard this season and ended with a 2-0 win over Collegiate.

Middle School

The Middle School Gold team, under the direction of Bonny Hajek, had a fantastic season full of skill development and fun. The team worked hard throughout the season, improving their serving, hitting, and passing. From first game to last, they made great strides. All players were able to be successful at the service line and amazingly, our top server hit 64 overhand serves during the season, with the second best server hitting 46 over the net. Our two and three hit volleys became more frequent as our teamwork and footwork improved. We won more games than last year and everyone had a turn to learn all the positions on the court. The team of sixth and seventh graders rotated the captain position so that all members could serve in that leadership position.

2015 Season Recap

Under head coach Greg Young, varsity volleyball capped off an 11-13 season with a victory over rival Collegiate on Senior Night. Under a new coach and offensive system, the team rallied and trained like champions from the beginning. The team put more hours in the gym this season than ever, and the result of that hard work could be seen from the start of the first game. The junior captain accumulated more than 217 kills and 54 aces over the course of the season. Two junior players accumulated more than 120 kills apiece. A junior setter had more than 450 assists for the season. The senior captain had a season total of 128 kills. For the first time, the team was ranked on the state poll from the beginning of the season. They also defeated many teams this season that they had not defeated previously.

Middle School

Under head coach Kylie Kutney, the Middle School blue team worked well together and had a positive season. The team started running an offense with designated setters early on, which allowed many players to have stand-out moments. Throughout the season, the team made game-winning plays with incredible hustle that led to some phenomenal saves and points. A seventh-grader started consistently jump-serving over the net, never missing more than one each game. Other players ruled the net with numerous blocks and tips, and they had some amazing digs throughout the season.

Steward Voices

Steward helped me develop the skills I needed to succeed in college and the courage and confidence to set competitive career goals for myself. But, these skills weren’t lessons I learned just in Steward’s classrooms; they came from the athletic fields, in the hallways, and during Honor Council meetings, too.
