Standout Spartan: Mary-Kate Hrabak '31

The Steward School
Soccer standout is headed to regional playoffs
Congratulations to Mary-Kate Hrabak ’31, a member of the Richmond United Blue 2012 Girls soccer team. For the second consecutive year, the team came in first place for the ECNL-Regional League-Virginia, resulting in a bid to the regional playoffs.

The team competed against the 18 best ECNL-RL teams across Virginia and remained undefeated in all games. Mary-Kate was the leading goal scorer with 14 goals in league games! On June 27, the team will head to Somerset, N.J., to compete in the East Regional Playoffs with 15 other teams from the East Coast. The winning team will compete in July at the ECNL National Playoffs in Seattle, Wash.

Mary-Kate, who has been playing soccer since she was two years old, said, “What I like most about being on the team is learning how to be a leader and creating long-lasting friendships.”

When she’s not on the soccer pitch, you can find Mary-Kate reading (current favorite books: “The Summer I Turned Pretty” and “The Last Bookshop in London”), refereeing youth soccer on the weekends, or playing the alto saxophone. At Steward, she’s a member of the Middle School newspaper committee, debate club, and Jewish student union. “The best thing about being a Spartan is that classes are small,” she said, “so I get to know everyone quickly!”

We wish Mary-Kate and the rest of the 2012 Blue girls the best of luck!
