Standout Spartan: Alaina Jefferson '22

The Steward School
This Spartan's goal: advancing women's healthcare
Alaina Jefferson ’22, who graduated this month from Vanderbilt University with a major in neuroscience and a minor in Spanish, is the subject of a May 11, 2026, article published on Vanderbilt University’s website.

The article, ‘From brain circuits to birth equity: how arts and science helped Alaina Jefferson’s journey,’ chronicles Ms. Jefferson’s long-held interest in the brain. It also highlights her Vanderbilt journey, including a course of study that proved to be life-changing. Ms. Jefferson, a Steward Robson Scholar, originally planned to pursue a career in neurology. After enrolling in a course that blended the humanities and medicine, Ms. Jefferson now plans to pursue a career in obstetrics and gynecology and to work toward advancing women’s healthcare, specifically for Black women.

“My ultimate goal is to become an OB/GYN with a focus on helping patients in underserved communities and hopefully delve into women’s health research in the long run,” she is quoted in the article. “I’m excited to see how my passions coalesce in the future as I work towards becoming a doctor.”

Congratulations, Ms. Jefferson! We can’t wait to see what comes next!
