Standout Spartan: Jack Jordan '23

This Spartan knows how to build community.
Jack Jordan ’23 was excited to join Steward’s Habitat for Humanity youth leadership team at the beginning of his freshman year. Due to the pandemic, however, the team was unable to carry out many of its large-scale activities.

“I still wanted to contribute something concrete to the Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity organization,” says Jack, who had noticed lots of Little Libraries (public bookcases that promote free book exchanges) on social media. After finding a plan online and gathering supplies at a hardware store, Jack built a Little Library in his parents’ garage.

To stock the library, “I sent home flyers with Lower School students asking for book donations, and it turned out to be a huge success,” he says. “We collected over 400 children’s books!” The Little Library is located outside the Richmond Habitat ReStore on Roane Street in Northside. Jack is already looking forward to a spring 2022 book drive.

Vice president of the Honor Council, Jack recently re-started the Operation Smile Club at Steward. Operation Smile is a non-profit medical organization that helps aid children with cleft palates and cleft lips. He plans to lead several fundraisers this year to support surgeries for children in need.

“My favorite thing about Steward is its overwhelming amount of participation in projects like these,” he says. “It is truly amazing.”
