Kudos to Hayden Ashworth ’23, whose Spanish-language poem, Consejo de un viejo vagueando (“Advice From an Old Man Loitering Around”) was chosen among thousands of submissions nationally to be published in the next issue of Albricias, the Hispanic Honor Society Journal.
“The theme of the poem is how today, the nature of work, whether at school or professional, is often placed on a pedestal, typically upstaging mental and physical health,” explained Hayden.
A member of the Creative Writing Club at Steward, Hayden said, “What I enjoy most about writing poetry is how intentional everything is. Where you start and end lines, punctuation, capitalization … things that are basic grammar rules for any other type of writing become stylistic tools for poetry, which I find really interesting and unique.” Hayden is also a member of the Hispanic Honor Society, the editor for Steward Ink (the School’s student-run newspaper), and a member of the Diversity Club. Congratulations, Hayden!
