Standout Spartan: Amy Harris

The Steward School
Sister, singer, community partner
Junior Kindergarten Aide Amy Harris has been working for weeks on a very special event to honor her sister Ellen Williamson, who died in 2020 from breast cancer. A fundraiser in Ms. Williamson’s memory will benefit the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation and will take place on Saturday, April 20 from 4-9 p.m. at the Kanawha Recreation Center (8100 Holmes Avenue, Richmond).

“Ellen, who was diagnosed at age 34, died at age 48,” said Ms. Harris. “I wanted to do this to honor her and help others battling cancer. The Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation was the perfect group to partner with because they help cancer patients navigate treatment and find the support they need.”

Ms. Harris, who sings vocals in the Richmond band The Spottsmen, said the group will perform at the event beginning at 5 p.m. The gathering will also include BBQ, games, raffles, and a silent auction.

“We have 20 more tickets available,” she said. “I encourage those interested to contact me. I’d love to see some Spartans at this family-friendly event!”
